Nonna Marcella: The Heart and Soul of Our Family
Grandmother Marcella has always been a pivotal figure in her family, a true pillar on which everyone could rely. Raised in a small village in the countryside near Padua, she learned from a young age the importance of hard work and family solidarity. She was a woman whose hands were always busy, capable of turning simple ingredients into dishes rich with tradition and love.
From her childhood, she absorbed the value of caring for others, taught by her foremothers. Her grandmother Maria Teresa, a teacher and midwife, imparted to her a passion for teaching and a dedication to caring for people, respected and loved by her students.
But Nonna Marcella's true talent lay in cooking. Her lasagna, gnocchi with sauce, and fritters were a delight, and every time the family gathered around the table, you could feel the energy and love she put into each dish. It was during these moments, amidst stirring and sautéing, that stories of past generations were told—stories of lived experiences and values conveyed with heartfelt sincerity.
Today, I continue those traditions, striving to keep alive the memory of Grandmother Marcella and Great-Grandmother Maria Teresa. They instilled in me a strong work ethic and care for others. I feel part of that long intergenerational thread that binds all the women in my family, in both profession and personal relationships, through their strength and determination that pushes me to always give my best.
This photo is of my great-grandmother, the first teacher of Fossaragna, a pioneering educator and a cornerstone of her community’s history and heritage.Thus, within the walls of my psychology studio, I too manage to convey that trust and dedication to others that my ancestors taught me. I rediscover the roots of my being through ancient stories and familiar flavors, aware that the support of generations acts like "emotional vitamins" that permeate our being and sustain us.
Grandmother Marcella and Great-Grandmother Maria Teresa, with their silent love and bold determination, continue to live in the hearts of all of us, guiding us along the path of life with wisdom and unconditional love. I am grateful for everything they have done for the family and for passing on those values that today guide me in my profession and in my daily life.
